Hi there! I’m Lauryn. I’m a black caribbean, queer, neurodivergent, nurse practitioner in the making, committed to liberation on every level. Here’s some background on me and my approach to sessions:
I’m currently working on becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner so I can deliver the culturally responsive care our communities deserve. (Not so) Fun Fact: only 9% of nurse practitioners and 2% of psychiatrists (i.e. people who are allowed to prescribe meds) are Black (let alone Black women), so we’re out here trying to change these numbers!
I’m an eternally curious, eldest daughter with a sharp spirit, but gentle heart.
I’ve sharpened said spirit over a decade of gathering knowledge, discerning divine downloads, and delivering insights with all of the gentleness growth and healing require. (I love offering good practicals!)
I use the language of parts theory (IFS) often and center a lot of inner child work in cultivating tenderness within oneself and identifying where you can reduce friction within your being.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Harvard, where my work centered on mental health disparities impacting black women and girls. I consequently employ a systems lens in sessions to help individuals understand their experiences in the context of oppressive systems and to build the muscles necessary to hold themselves with deep self-compassion.
Some intersecting topics I’m personally familiar talking through/holding with others:
healing from self abandonment, excising shame/building your self compassion muscles, (re)building identity, figuring out how to live in alignment, recovery from chronic gaslighting, relationship abuse, religious trauma (especially if you’re still looking to be spiritual/do divine work), body/desirability politics, navigating predominantly white spaces (and everything that comes with that), generational trauma healing (and the alienation that sometimes happens with it), complex relational dynamics and skill building (very little surprises me at this point y’all), eldest daughter sh*t (especially in immigrant families), neurodivergence (and making your life more accessible for you/friction free), disability leave, seeking assessment, and building self advocacy muscles
What being in a coaching session with me might look like:
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in the power of bearing witness, offering language, and using tools that help you reconnect with your own aliveness and truth.
I do everything I can to ensure that in a shame-driven world, there is one fertile space for you to start cultivating the grace towards ourselves necessary for us to not only survive, but to be truly free.
Something I’m dedicated to: creating spaces where people feel seen, safe, and never judged — spaces where the journey back home to oneself can feel a little less lonely.
When I’m not in sessions or working, you’ll likely find me: passionately speaking about love as a radical politic rooted in liberation (with literally anyone who will listen to me), nourishing my body and spirit with delicious new foods and movement, and making friends with trees and waterways wherever I go. (I also just started learning tarot and am enjoying developing a regular practice!)
